What is DFS, and do I need to know football?

No sports experience required. DFS stands for daily fantasy sports — short, low-commitment contests built around a single game, week, or event instead of a whole season.

How is daily fantasy different from regular fantasy?

Season-long fantasy leagues run from August to January. You draft once and manage the same roster for months. Daily fantasy resets every week, or even every game. No draft night, no commitment, no benchwarmers.

Contest types in plain English

  • GPP (tournament): big prize pool, top finishers win most of it. High upside, lots of competition.
  • 50/50 (double-up): finish in the top half, roughly double your entry fee. Steady and beginner-friendly.
  • H2H (head-to-head): one opponent, winner takes the pot. Like ping-pong, but with fantasy scoring.
  • Freeroll: free to enter, real prizes. The best way to try a format risk-free.
